(A) There is a couple different ways.

  1. Use toggle bolts making sure that the bolts are not too long that they hit the door when the door is in the pocket.
  2. Use wall anchors into the drywall, making sure that they are not too long that they hit the door when the door is in the pocket.

Pocket Door Advantages

One advantage of using pocket doors in new home construction is that it saves you money. If a homeowner builds with pocket doors, instead of traditional doors that swing on a hinge and take up valuable space, he or she would be able to exclude ten or more square feet for each door.  At building costs of $100 per square foot,  and substituting 10 pocket doors in a house, this could add up to savings of up to $10,000, if the house is reduced in size to accommodate the space savings.  Accessibility is another factor with pocket doors.  As the Baby Boomer generation moves closer to their retirement years, a huge new market is being created for handicapped accessible homes.  People are looking at features in their homes to make their homes more accessible, and at the same time, look nice, and have great resale features. People building are also looking at building home that they can stay in as they age.  Pocket doors are just easier to move than standard doors, and create wider openings, than standard doors.

One disadvantage of pocket doors is that they just can not be put anywhere. Since pocket doors depend on a frame built into your wall, you must check for certain items first. Always check for ductwork, pluming, wiring, and having enough space to put the frame in.  If you do not have any of these issues, installing a pocket door should be no problem.

(A) This formula is for our 1500 series & 1560 series Rough opening for the Width of a single door: is 2 X door width + 1″ [25mm] — Double doors is 4 X door width ( do not add extra inch for double doors ) Rough opening for the Height is your door height + 4 1/4″ (114mm)

For our 2000 series the only difference is the Height you will need your door Height + 6 3/4″ .

How do you install a pocket door ?

(A)   The whole pocket door installation is best achieved when the frame kit is used. The frame kit consists of the track and hardware used to hang and house the door. The installation of the frame kit is most easily achieved in new construction. If you are remodeling you will first have to make sure you are not going to dismantle a load bearing wall to insert the frame kit. If you do not know what a load bearing wall is, stop and seek the help of a professional. Click here to view the installation instructions.

Can you lock a Pocket Door ?

(A) Yes,a pocket door can be locked using a Privacy pocket door pull ,but this pull is not a secure lock. They do not make a secure lock for pocket doors that will lock a pocket door securely. And if you happen to have a set of double pocket doors the Privacy will not work. The two interfere with each other , their is no place to put the strike plate on the other door. The only locks we sell for a double door is a Mortise lock set that comes from a company called Gruppo Romi . www.pocketdoorproducts.com then go to pocket door pulls - heavy duty pocket door pulls -
